Whats in Your Vending Machine?

I was driving in the car the other day when I heard a very interesting study that had been done.  It said, simply, that it was possible to get yourself to crave healthy food when you are hungry.  The way to do it is that when you are the most hungry, to eat something healthy.  While it may not satisfy you immediately like a big bowl of Mac&Cheese would it should stop your hunger.  If you do this for a couple weeks, your body will start to equate that healthy food to being satisfied when you are hungry.  So next time you are hungry, maybe you will crave a carrot, or an apple, or something better for you than a Pop-Tart.I was explaining this story to a friend of mine and he said it made sense to him, because when he gets hungry he goes after the easiest and quickest thing that he can get his hands on to eat and satisfy the hungry.  In his place of work, normally that is a vending machine of some sort.  And I don't know about vending machines where you live, but there aren't a whole lot of healthy options in them.I thought about this with our relationship with God.  When something bad happens to you or you need help, where do you turn first?  Is it the closest and fastest solution?  Or do you think through it and determine how God can help you.Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."I'll be the first one to be honest here and say that a lot of the time it is the first one for me.  I'm a guy so our immediate reaction is "how can I fix it?" and "Whats the fastest way to get there".  I do this a lot, even with my friends.  When something is bothering them, I want to be able to fix it on my own, and do it fast.  But thats not what God wants.  He wants you to lean on the "snacks" He has given you to fill you up and fix whatever "hunger" you are going through.  "Snacks" such as; the Bible, Prayer, Meditation, Church, Accountability, Worship, and more.  God's vending machine is full of things that can satisfy our needs and if we simply take a few more steps to get to the right vending machine, then the ultimate result will be much better than it could have been.  God's way may actually end up being the fastest, but its not always that way.  I can promise you it is always the best way.Isaiah 55:8-9 - "“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”declares the Lord“As the heavens are higher than the earth,so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."And back to my original comment...If you do this enough, you will begin to train yourself to crave a Godly response or a "God Snack" when you hit a bump in the road or are having a hard time.2 Timothy 4:2 - "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction."SO...next time you are hungry (for God or for food), think about where you are going to go to satisfy that hunger!
