Who God Says We Are
Proverbs 23: 7 begins, “For as he thinketh in his heart so he is…” We get to choose how we see our selves. We can either align our minds to believe we are who the world tells us we are or that we are who God says we are. When we set our minds on who our Father tells us we are, we begin to see the power and Spirit He has given us manifest in our lives.
Who are we?
How often do we as believers remind ourselves of who we are? What practice are we using to align our minds to the powerful Spirit in us?
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
We are co-heirs with Christ. Think about that, the God who created the heavens and the earth call us His children. You and I are heirs to all that belongs to our Father. He has given us dominion over the earth. Our identity is in Him, as children of God.
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” Luke 10:19
Sonship Through the Son
When Jesus came into the earth, He made a way for us to be reunited with our God. Not only did He make a way for us to once again have a personal relationship with Him, one with our sins wiped away, He also created a way for us to be adopted as sons and daughters of God. When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we also receive His righteousness. Despite our humanity, He qualifies us through His blood to be co-heirs with Christ.It's easy to get lost in our every day lives, down trodden with the weight of the day to day, but that doesn't change who we are. We always have a reason to lift our head because we are the beloved of God. He chose us and rescued us because He loves us. He looked at each of us and deemed us worthy of His extravagant love. It's almost embarrassing to think about. We don't want to believe it because we don't feel like we're good enough. But He never asked us to be perfect; He asked us to come as we are before Him.When we surrender ourselves to Him, He bestows upon us the title of son or daughter of God.
Believing the Truth of Who We Are
Is it any wonder the enemy would like to attack our thinking and the way we see ourselves? We are God’s people, made in His image. We are a people who are charged to do greater things than Christ did on earth. Think about that. Jesus Christ said in John 14:12-14, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”To believe that we are anything less than winners and overcomers is absolute deception. It is a lie! We are victorious through Jesus.When we have Jesus, there is no longer any need to live in fear or shame. He has lifted up our heads and said we are His.
Overcoming the Lies of the World
The world will point the finger at us all day long and say we are not worthy. Attacks on our identity comes in all shapes and sizes. We are told we're not good enough to pursue something or that we aren't attractive enough. We get rejected, are chosen last, are scolded when we make a simple mistake. Someone we trusted abandons us. We look at the world around us and feel that we don't fit in. Our ideas are dismissed, and we get overlooked.

But the world has no authority over us. It only holds as much power in our lives as we choose to give it.When the lies of the enemy and the hurts of the world come against us, we can stand in strength with confidence in who we are. Our Father never leaves us. He will never hang us out to dry. He's never too busy to see and be there with us. There is nothing too small for Him to handle. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and He has called us worthy of His love. He has called us victorious.
Reprogramming Our Thinking Through Faith
We have to reprogram our thinking daily. Our faith depends on us storing God's Word and truth in our hearts. Romans 10:17 is clear about the formula for faith, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The biblical greats all accomplished the tasks God gave them by faith. In their own humanity, they were unqualified, but with faith, God used them to move mountains.We all have something that God has set on our hearts, something that may just seem too big for us. We just can’t see it happening. Life just seems to be beating us every which way. But God is not a liar, if He has spoken it to you, He will bring it to pass.
"God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" Numbers 23:19
The moment we begin to transform the way we see ourselves and set our eyes on God, we will see Him move. He doesn't choose the well-known or the rich to do His deeds. He chooses those whose hearts are turned towards Him. We are each on this earth for a special assignment set out for us by the Creator Himself. He set me, He set you, at this exact time and place in history to accomplish His will. When we believe in who God says we are rather than who the world says we are, we will experience power and vision to carry out what God has set within our hearts.After all, we are the children of the Most High King, co-heirs in His victory. As Jesus Himself said, "Everything is possible for one who believes" (Mark 9:23)
