A Call to Action: Yesterday's Prayer is Today's Calling
If prayer was a microphone in the throne room of Heaven, I think most of us would pick it up and yell, "IS THIS THING ON???" Why is it we so often find ourselves at a loss, wondering if God even hears us? We cry so loud for God to show us His calling on our lives. His will for our lives...
- What school should I go to?
- What job path should I take?
- Is he or she the one?
- Should I even get married?
- If I love him / her whats the big deal about sex before marriage?
We long for every little detail to be answered or directed. Long to be freed from bondage but then ask God, the one that freed us, to be the one that holds us captive. We ask God to ask us to do things for Him. We want Him to “call us” into action. Yet, at the same time we completely ignore what we know He has already called or asked us to do. You know the little things like,
“Don't worry about tomorrow for today has it's own problems.” - Matthew 6:34 NIV
We look to the future by days, months, years and completely ignore the right now.
We look to where God is calling us in the future instead of where He has already called us in the past and placed us in the present.
I remember one time I was sweeping the kitchen. This was long before the Swiffer was invented. A time when mops where disgusting and you needed a huge bucket that probably helped generate every disease known to man. That floor didn't know what was coming. I looked under every nook and cranny. (Whats a cranny by the way?) I swept every crumb, piece of hair, dead roach, dirt, Cracker Jack and Popsicle stick. When I tell you that floor looked amazing, I mean it. If Billy Mays was there (RIP Billy.) he would have put down OxyClean and tried selling you my skills. That floor was incredible. I can still see it; the floor was sparkling like the day it was installed.

Every inch of that floor was spectacular. Except. One. Spot. There, in the middle of the floor, was a pile of filth. A pile of everything I thought I had already taken care of. How could I have missed it? I treated every inch of that kitchen as it were my calling to clean it. It was my duty, even my destiny to make that kitchen a work of art. I was so focused on every inch of that floor I could see around me I forgot to look under my own feet.
I forgot to look right where I was standing.
When we look everywhere around us, we loose focus. When we lose focus on the big picture we can often miss the details. You may at some point find yourself getting frustrated with friends and family because they too have no idea where your next move may need to be. Next time it happens, just think, maybe they don't know where you should go because it's right where you're standing.
