What My Apple Watch Taught Me About Letting Go of the Past

A few months ago I purchased an Apple Watch Series 2! I was excited about the water proof feature that was added. Being able to keep swimming stats is something that I had been wanting and was looking forward to!

Shortly after purchasing this Apple Watch, I realized that I had a problem...

Although the product box and apple website both make it very clear that this watch is waterproof; I didn't believe that it actually was... Why was this?Throughout my history with technology I've had a few phones end up in water. In the past, water has equated to instant death for phones! Over and over I'd have to cut my losses and go purchase a new phone. Now I have this Apple Watch... Although everything about it screams "waterproof", I still do not believe it because of my history. The first time I got into the pool with this watch on I freaked out a little. "Alex, you know it's going to break." I said to myself, "You'll have to buy another one as soon as you get in the water."Now I may sound a little weird (or crazy) because of this; and maybe you also have an Apple Watch and had no problem keeping it on while in the pool or shower. Maybe you feel like you cannot relate to this story...

What more of us can relate to is when you compare this story to relationships and (or) dreams.

Are you holding onto an inaccurate mindset about relationships? Maybe you've been hurt every time you've been in a relationship, so now in this New Year you're scared to try again or are already assuming that it will end bad again. Are you holding onto an inaccurate mindset about your dreams in life? Maybe you've tried started businesses, or even just new habits; only to fail. Maybe in this New Year you want to try pursuing your dreams again, but you're scared to try again.

You are not defined by where you have been. You are defined by where you are going.

Much like my Apple Watch experience; you may be holding onto bad/outdated mindsets in your life. You are not your past. Your future is created by the decisions you make today. So let me ask you this... Who are you going to be today?

4 points about letting go of the past:

1. Seek God in a way that you never have before. Put Him above all else in your life. Let Him renew your mindsets about different areas and things in your life. Be NEW! "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." - Proverbs 3:62. Forgive yourself and forgive others. Give yourself and others a fresh start. This is key in letting go of the past. It all begins with a heart of forgiveness.3. Pursue new relationships. Whether it is just friendships or a romantic endeavor; start pursuing once again. Do not walk into these relationships with the same mindset! Remember that you are a new creation in Christ. God has better out there than what was in your past.4. Focus more on the future. If you focus more on what is ahead of you instead of behind you, it's amazing how much easier it becomes to truly let go.[easy-tweet tweet="You are not your past. I pray that you begin to move forward and grow in ways that you never have before. God has so much more for you in life and I believe it is just a mindset adjustment away!
