Science And The Bible

Today I wish to show you how simply awesome the Bible is, specifically in the practical science arena. If you're feeling like the Bible and science are at irreconcilable ends, this may be for you. A fair amount of contention exists right now between the realm of science and the Holy Word of God: arguments are made how the Bible is an archaic collection of fairy-tales that is being disproven daily by supreme advancements in science. Graduating B.S. in Physics a few years back, I've heard my fair share of the jeering from the scientific community. The fact of the matter truly is, however, that the Bible is actually the one proving/disproving scientific theories over grand scales of time. The final proven and concrete "fact" of a subject, as it is scientifically studied over very long periods, always ends up not-so-surprisingly being a position that was already held by the Bible, written long before science began even postulating on the subject in the first place.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." - Proverbs 9:10

The collection of today's ever-apostatic scientists have forgotten that their own champions and founders of modern science first revered God above all else."If you study science deep enough and long enough, it will force you to believe in God. " - Lord Kelvin"The most beautiful system of [our solar system] could only proceed from the council and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being." - Isaac Newton"Mathematics is the language by which God has written the universe." - GalileoAnd so on. Here's just a few of the many examples of how, while man postulated, theorized, and tested, the Bible sat quietly holding the foundational answers over millennia.

Science And The Bible

Astronomy

Isaiah 40:22: "He sits enthroned above the circle of the Earth..."Regardless of what the church may have believed in Galileo's time, Isaiah prophesied through vision that the Earth was a sphere a full 200 years before Pythagorus first postulated it and a staggering 2,300 years before it could be verified in 1522AD. This piece of evidence is so blatant, it leads critics of the Bible to try and state the interpretation is that of a "flat disc" instead of sphere or to point to the thematic structure of the prophecy to allude to Isaiah merely being poetic rather than to be taken seriously. But when combined with Luke 17:34-35, where Jesus states there will be people both sleeping at night and working in the broad daylight at a simultaneous point in time, something impossible to state with the flat-Earth theory, it becomes concrete that the Bible referred to Earth as a sphere.

Geography

Genesis 7:11: "...all the springs of the great deep burst forth..."Job 38:16: "Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?"It has long been postulated by science that directly beneath us, the Earth's mantle consists of just sediment, rock of various forms, and molten lava. For the Bible to even state there's water deep under us in the earth seemed crazy. By 1977, the technology finally started arriving to allow deep oceanic exploration. Starting at 1.8 miles deep, scientists found instead what the Bible stated all along: the ocean floor contains what's called hydrothermal vents, geysers venting hot water trapped within deeper rock formations, making the ancient accounts of Genesis and Job something a little more than just fairy-tale.

Biology

Lev 17:11: "For the life of the creature is in the blood..."The Bible attests that organic energy is contained in the blood, underlining its criticality within living creatures. But the importance of blood in biological systems was largely misunderstood by western science for thousands of years. The theory of humoralism derived by the ancient Greeks described blood as simply equal in weight to three other fluids found within living creatures. The theories put forth in humoralism remained as one of the chief foundational understandings in anatomical biology for over 2000 years, even into the 19th century where blood-letting still prevailed in disease treatment (effectively weakening and killing patients). It was only in the middle of that recent century where science had finally advanced enough to discover the critical importance of blood and align itself with what was quoted in Leviticus, a book already written over a span of 2,200 to up to 3,300 years prior.

Meteorology

Ecc 1:6: "The wind blows to the south and to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course."Solomon was divinely and directly blessed by God with wisdom and knowledge. Ecclesiastes gives an account of air current traversal being circular in behavior and occurring in returning patterns a full 400 years before Hippocrates theorized on it and almost 2,700 years before technology could catch-up enough in the 1800's with the creation of the first synoptic charts by telegraph, which concretely proved circulating current patterns.

Medical

Lev 15:13: "And he shall bathe himself in fresh water, and he shall be clean."The chapters of Leviticus 13-15 could be considered a foundation of medical sanitary guidelines. The Encyclopedia Britannica calls the Hebrew Bible a "mine of information on social and personal hygiene". The chapters speak of treating humans with open wounds as unclean and requiring washing of the body after providing treatment as well as the requirement of washing specifically with fresh water, among many other requirements. Unfortunately, medical leaders of the day disregarded such Biblical foundations all the way as late as the 19th century, where physicians would still employ the practice of washing bodily discharge off their hands in stale, reused bowls, resulting in astronomical mortality rates in hospitals. The Black Death plague rampaged Europe in the 1300's because the healthy would share living quarters with the sick and not wash the clothes or the furniture where the infected would lay, as instructed to do in Leviticus (doing so would've suppressed the fleas that carried the disease). It took again at least 2,200 years for science to catch up and begin to offer the microscopic understanding that could explain pathology, pointing right back to the very same standards set forth in the Bible millennia earlier. There exist many further examples of the Bible's concreteness in standing with understanding of the physical world. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bashing of science, science is very important. God desires us to be fruitful and study creation (the explosive increase of science and understanding in our age was even prophesied over 2000 years ago in Daniel 12:4). But history shows how much time science could've saved by simply adopting the stances of the Bible as a foundation and studying further from there! The next time you may be feeling that the Bible and science are at odds, or that the Bible is a mere collection of ancient outdated tales, remember that science is an ever-evolving and advancing industry, where today's loud and strongly-vetted theories are quietly discarded tomorrow following new findings and advancements; where what society holds as "irrefutable fact" one day becomes what they laugh at or even abhor centuries later. The unchanging Bible has been being subtly and continually proven true over hundreds and thousands of years worth of scientific developments, even if it seems to contradict the current fashionable theories held in the infinitesimally temporary snapshot of the day. So the next time something seems at odds with what you hold true, you can be able to put things in the perspective of millennia.
