Don't miss the people right beside you in an effort to talk to someone far away

My little sister who I love to death said something the other day while we were talking on the phone that really has stuck with me, so I give her the majority of the credit for this thought.  It doesn't take much for God to speak to me through her.I was giving her a hard time on the phone (because thats what brothers do) about how we never talk anymore and how she should call me more often.  I told her I assumed it was because she doesn't love me any more or something like that, haha.  Luckily I grew up in a very sarcastic family so she knew I was joking with her and we were able to continue without her thinking I was serious.  However, she said something after that that made me love her even more.  And while I will probably mis-quote it a little I will try to get the same concept across.  She said, "Listen! I'm spending time with these people here where I am, I don't have time to call you all the time.  When I go somewhere else, I will spend time with those people. If I come to see you I will spend time with you."Her point (at least the way I saw it) was not that she didn't want to talk to me, but she was truly acting out the calling to live just as Jesus did. She wanted to spend every moment she could loving on those around her since she didn't know how long she would be there in person.  There were no cell phones or technology when Jesus was on Earth, and even if there were I believe He wouldn't have used them a lot. He would have done exactly what my sister was saying...He personally interacted with and shared His love face -to-face with those around Him.  While He knew was His ultimate goal and purpose was, He never missed the people that were right in front of Him at any one point in time.I encourage you today to focus on where you are right now and the people around you.  God has you RIGHT HERE for a reason and while this may be part of a plan to get you somewhere else, you will never get there if you don't focus 100% on your current situation.  And who knows who you might miss getting to talk to!
